How we calculate take-home
Every figure on this site comes from one maintained dataset of official pricing, verified 2026-07.
The formula
For each platform, at a given monthly revenue and number of sales:
take_home = revenue
− monthly_plan_cost
− (revenue × platform_fee_%)
− (fixed_fee_per_sale × sales)
− payment_processing
Payment processing = Stripe 2.9% + $0.30 per sale, unless the platform is merchant-of-record (Gumroad) or bundles processing into its own fee (Kit).
Which tier we model
Each platform is modeled on the plan a typical solo creator starts on. Higher tiers frequently trade a larger monthly fee for a lower percentage cut — Teachable 7.5%→0%, Podia 5%→0%, Payhip 5%→0%, Skool 10%→2.9%. The calculator reveals the revenue level where switching tiers wins.
Known limitations
- LearnWorlds' flat $5/enrollment is modeled as a per-sale cost; Uscreen's per-subscriber fees, Patreon payout/currency fees, and Gumroad's 30% Discover rate are noted but not computed.
- Newsletter platforms also charge for list size as it grows; only their commerce/subscription fee is modeled.
- Prices are USD and can change. Each platform page shows its last-verified date.
